Just thought I'd let you know we had a fun time celebrating music yesterday. We held our own in-school concert from 2.30 - 3pm with our Senior choir, Concert Band, two year 6 Marimba class ensembles and concluded with the whole school singing ‘Come Play Your Part’.  Each group performance was interspersed with year 7 students and teachers sharing their answer to "Why Make Music?" A great afternoon enjoyed by all! Thank you to all of you at Music. Play for Life who helped provide the resources, advertising and enthusiasm!

Salt Ash Public School, NSW

salt-ash-primaryWe are a small school with 105 students. We all went into the library and watched the Live Web broadcast from Melbourne. Although we live in NSW I thought the Melbourne broadcast would be better as John Foreman and Bobby were taking part there. The morning was great and the students just loved the song this year. Many thanks for coming up with this great initiative. Looking forward to next year.

Our choir sang the song today at 11:30 for the rest of the school.  They will share it with the wider community as part of our creative arts performance next week. It’s such a great song and they sing it so well. We will certainly be signing up for next year.

Beaconsfield State School, QLD

Our school, Beaconsfield State School, Mackay, Qld, participated in the performance of ‘Come Play Your Part’ today. We set up a large screen with a projector in the undercover area and ran an internet cable some 40 metres from a classroom to connect to the internet. We disconnected the entire school's computers from the internet to make sure there was enough to hook into the live feed.  There were a few hiccups but we did connect and the entire school population of 530 were watching and with 5 mins to the performance the connection froze.  We went ahead with the performance.  We had a soloist and choir singing the harmony. Today is also our school's 11th birthday so we finished with the singing of Happy Birthday to the school.  We are going to do a repeat performance next week to capitalise on the momentum created.  My two choirs have also increased in number since the students began learning the song.  Every classroom teacher has been supportive by teaching the song during their school day. The children absolutely love the song.  Thank you.

Kukerin Primary School, WA

At Kukerin Primary School, all our students have been practising the song ‘Come Play Your Part’ for Music Count Us In 2010. All students have been given a copy of the song to listen to and learn at home and Parents have also been invited to learn it. We have been practising regularly during class time, during Music lessons and Choir Practise in the lead up. We will all sing the song in the school library and Parents and Community Members are all invited. It has been a lot of fun and extremely beneficial to the students' learning as well as in promoting the benefits of Music in education. We will be providing the Wagin Argus (our local newspaper) with a photo and article about our participation in the event. We are really looking forward to it!!!

Wandoan State School is performing Come Play Your Part, our Instrumental Concert Band are playing while the whole Primary school and some High School Students sing the lyrics. We have invited the parents and community to be a part of this event and it is going to be a great morning that involves all the school and our great township. We are very excited and look forward to performing.

Borden Primary School, WA

Borden Primary School is a small rural school with 38 students close to the beautiful Stirling Ranges in southern WA. This is the first time we’ve participated in ‘Music: Count Us In’ and the children are having a great time learning ‘Come Play Your Part’. Our Kindy/Pre-primary teacher doubles as a music teacher once a week so all students get a session of music education. They have all learnt to sing the song, and some of our senior class boys have created some great-sounding ‘Ooohs’ mimicking the horn section in the bridge. Our music teacher has also written some simplified recorder parts for the pre-chorus and the bridge, which a group of students have been practising at home and during some lunchbreaks. We’re looking forward to joining so many other students all over Australia on September 2nd.

Flinders Park Primary School, WA

Down here in Albany WA we're getting ready for our annual music festival which this year will feature a very special guest, our own Taylor Pomery, co-writer of "Come Play Your Part". Over 350 local children from 7 local schools will be joined by Taylor in singing the song as the finale to our showcase festival in front of an audience of 600. Taylor is also a tuba playing member of her high school concert band who have been visiting numerous local primary schools this week prior to her flying to Sydney for September 2. As part of their show, Taylor puts the tuba aside, grabs her guitar and leads the 40+ piece concert band through "Come Play Your Part". They played at Flinders Park PS this morning and it was definitely the highlight of the show, with 500 kids joining in the singing. Keep up the good work everybody!
