Flinders Park Primary School, WA

Down here in Albany WA we're getting ready for our annual music festival which this year will feature a very special guest, our own Taylor Pomery, co-writer of "Come Play Your Part". Over 350 local children from 7 local schools will be joined by Taylor in singing the song as the finale to our showcase festival in front of an audience of 600. Taylor is also a tuba playing member of her high school concert band who have been visiting numerous local primary schools this week prior to her flying to Sydney for September 2. As part of their show, Taylor puts the tuba aside, grabs her guitar and leads the 40+ piece concert band through "Come Play Your Part". They played at Flinders Park PS this morning and it was definitely the highlight of the show, with 500 kids joining in the singing. Keep up the good work everybody!

Camboon Primary School, WA

At Camboon Primary School, we have a dedicated music specialist who teaches music to all years from 1-7. Every class has watched the videos on the website and have been amazed at the talented high school students who wrote the songs. Some children have even been practicing the songs on their computer at home! For Music Count Us In 2010 (our first time entering), we are putting on a concert, including performers from our school and performers from a local high school. We’re going to have piano duets, guitar groups, our choir and small singing group, recorders and the whole school singing Come Play Your Part and Ourselves Together. We’ve invited local council members, the administration from our local shopping centre and the residents from our local nursing home. What started out quite small has turned into something big. We are all really looking forward to it. We can’t wait!

St Paul's Catholic Primary School, VIC

While only registering St Paul's Primary Catholic School, where I volunteer teaching the choir for one hour each week, I have since taught 'Come Play Your Part' to my adult Choir, The Brimbank Multicultural Community Choir, who will now join with the kids and sing together on September 2nd. They will only have met each other, half an hour before the performance! The kids are using body percussion, percussion instruments and actions to emphasise specific words of the song, such as; shout, sing, beat, rhythm, hands, feet, voice and heart.  The Choir will wear all black with multicoloured scarves whilst the kids will wear black bottoms and a colourful t-shirt!  After our performance in front of the whole school community, we will come together, junior and senior choristers, and enjoy morning tea together.

Mt Hawthorn Primary School, WA

We have over 600 students at Mt Hawthorn PS and we are all thoroughly enjoying singing and grooving to "Come Play Your Part". This is the first year our school has been involved in Music: Count Us In and the children from Pre-primary to Year 7 and the Education Support Centre are looking forward to coming together on September 2nd to celebrate music. Many of the students are learning the song on recorder, xylophone, flute, saxophone, trumpet, clarinet, violin and viola and many will play in front of the school on September 2nd, 2010.Some classes have seen the video of the songwriting process and this has been inspirational! We also enjoyed watching the video of "Come Play Your part" especially seeing Bobby sing the song. Thanks for the chance to be involved in such an exciting project!

Ashbury Primary School, NSW

The students of Ashbury Primary School have been so keen in learning to sing ‘Come Play Your Part’. We have 340 students who embrace music as part of their Creative and performing Arts program, as well as participating in before and after school bands, choir and recorder group. On Thursday at 11.30 the whole school will come together, with the combined concert and intermediate bands playing the accompaniment and a choir leading the whole school through ‘Come Play Your Part’. It should sound fantastic!

Moora Primary School, WA

All 120 Moora Primary school students, aged from 4 to 12 years have been learning the song and practicing since the start of term 3. The children have loved learning the song, and have been practicing in class as well as at music lessons. We love the positive concepts it reinforces, as well as the upbeat melody. Bobby Andonov was a real winner for some of the older girls! When the children were told about the idea, some were very excited that (mistakenly) maybe they would get to perform at Sydney Opera House!!! As Moora is 180 north of Perth in Western Australia, unfortunately it wasn’t going to happen. Anyway, we all are excited about performing with schools across Australia. We will be performing the song to our fathers/ grandfathers/ significant males who have been invited to share lunch with their children as part of father’s day celebrations on Wednesday 1st. Then, we are all ready to join in on Thursday 2nd at 9.30 sharp. Thank you to those who originally came up with the idea, and for the opportunity to be a part of this whole Australia wide performance.

Everyone is enjoying the song! We are inviting the local newspaper to attend and plan to take photos for our newsletter and website!
